ASATHOMA SATHGAMAYA – AS WANDERER LOOKS AT IT
Wanderer always has wondered and many a times has been even astounded by the scientific precision of the ancient scriptures. The “
Sankalpa” of the initiates in a vedic school normally started with an assertion “
Asathoma Sathgamaya”. The mundane “
vakyakaras” explained it as “let us go forward, from untruth towards truth”. How untrue this explanation is?
“
Sarvam Brhama Mayam” is another universal factor as scientific as ‘
energy is neither created, nor destroyed’. If every atom is ‘
Brahman’ how come there is untruth (or) falsehood in perceived knowledge, which is absolutely relative. What is proved is disproved the next-day; what has been demonstrated science becomes sidelined by the new discoveries subsequently and; what is Dharma in a particular phase of time does not continue to enjoy the popular sanction at a different juncture. Therefore, what is it that the ‘
sloka’ tries to assert as the vow to be chanted by the new initiates, everyday morning?
‘
Asathu’ is weak, or a thing which is not strong or temporary or a susceptible matter. ‘
Sathu’ is strong, well founded and almost permanent. To assume ‘
asathyam’ as ‘
untrue’ can be better exchanged for a subtler interpretation; similarly ‘
Sathyam’ as for a mere ‘
truth’. What is hidden in the sankalpa is the commitment to gain strength from a weak position to a stronger foothold. Then what is the objective? For a vedic scholar it is the pursuit of ‘
Brahma’, because he is ‘
Brahmanah’.
The Teacher and Taught therefore takes the vow in the morning to engage in
that pursuit of Brahma
which ensures progress from weaker moorings to stronger postures, from the relative and subjective ‘
pramanams’ to absolute and omniscient ‘
realisation‘, ‘
Gnana’.

A PROLOGUE
All the forms of existence on the ‘universal’ are ‘cosmic scale’, can be evidenced by the yardsticks of time, place and person. The origin of life form is conclusively now being traced to the “Big Bang” theory. Wanderer is not bewildered by the magnificence of the grandiose perambulation of these evolutionary perceptions. Strangely the tantalizing question of what was there prior to “Big Bang” awfully happens to be his focus.
It is true that the ancient scriptures propounded “Asathoma Sathgamaya” , where the renowned authors explained it away as a pursuit seeking Truth. But, Wanderer always conceptualizes this teaching to mean the eternal search from the ever changing Subjective Reality to the realisation of the Absolute Truth. Logic is pyramidal in structure. Yet in each of these subjects it always does not end in a pinnacle precisely described by such a geometrical prevision.
Pursuits, particularly towards the unknown, take the Seeker through vapid, circuitry strange planes of paranormal and metaphysical instances of the miniscule aspects of fundamental knowledge of existence. Vedic scholars had their own problems in standardizing these pursuits but made it a daily routine, obligatory for a Practitioner (Sadaka) to observe “Iswara Pranidana” and “Athmavisara” as the “Iyamas” and “Niyamas”. Wanderer, however, does not feel bound by these prescriptions laid down for a Practitioner since he feels restricted.
Energy known to science kept changing from a Linear motion to Wave propagation and then to Particle movement, as of now. A very early spiritual scientist by name Acharya Kapil said life is always characterized by movements, that too harmonious movements. He compared “Niruthya”, eternal celestial dance, to existence of any life form, commencing from its atomic configuration (or) even less and extending to the greater systems of cosmology. Wanderer has a long way to go seeking the truth of the existence from the sub-atomic stage to that of the limitless expanse of the universe. Trillions of miles to go ………………..; The journey has commenced, do not know when; and it shall go on and on in this direction. Wanderer tries to describe which can be articulated and leaves many a things to the vivid imaginations of the intelligent reader, whom the Wanderer always considers to be his co-traveller, companion and may be a Guide too in this long, determined pursuit, which of course never had a definite beginning nor has an end at sight.
AN OVERSIMPLIFICATION OF A COMPLEX BEHAVIORAL MODEL
Any system of thought universally follows a pattern. Normally the transaction on a mundane plane can be synthesized into a simple formula represented as:
Input + Process=Output
When we talk of Religion as a system, the sequence is: thought, expression, belief, faith and worship. In a scientific analysis, it is: concepts, formulation of hypotheses, experiments, observations, findings and postulates of scientific theories.
In a broad summary manner this transaction analysis will transcend to an over simplified formulation:
Ideation + Logic = System.
Many of the behavioral scientist therefore have always pointed out that if one attack’s and succeeds in breaking the logic, the cogent system of thought breaks and gives away.

Knowing The Boundaries
The fathomless ocean has its shoreline. The violent river has its course. The vast water spread has its expanses bounded. The human interaction depends very much on these aspects verily witnessed in the instances of fluid dynamics narrated above.
Defining territories and restricting oneself within the boundaries are hence the hallmarks of emancipated social behaviour.
Needless to say, there may be occassions when the roaring currents cross the boundaries. Be it may, the individual, the family, the group, the society, the nations etc, such occurances of violation creates disturbance, disharmony and dislocation.
Humanity always has its equilibrium achieved in such situations by resorting to mechanisms like counselling, conciliation, mediation and judicious settlement.
Review, reassessment and rectification have always resulted in the best pacific solutions. Individual inter relationships, group dynamics and international co-existence: in all such levels of sustained human existence defining boundaries and seeking pacific soultions whenever the transgressions occur have always remained to be the ever present undercurrents of human co-existence
